Celebrate DNA Day 2017 with IDT

James Watson, Francis Crick, Rosalind Franklin, Maurice Wilkins, and their colleagues made history on April 25, 1953. Now, 64 years later, we wish to honor their discovery by putting forward something of our own (we admit, it may not be as radically different).

Contest details*

In the days leading up to DNA Day (Tuesday, April 25), we’ll be holding a social media photo contest. The theme of our photo contest is structure. That could mean the structure of DNA, the structure of a cell, the structure of a building, or even something abstract like the structure of a community. Structure is everywhere in our world, so be creative—be radically different!

How to participate

Just share an original photograph on Instagram or Twitter which conveys the theme of the contest, and use the hashtag #idtdnaday. Feel free to tag IDT in your submission, too. Our handle on both platforms is @idtdna.

To be eligible, you must submit your photo by 12:00 Noon CDT (UTC-5) on Monday, April 24, 2017.

Judging

Photos will be subjectively judged based on a combination of creativity, quality, and connection to our theme. On DNA Day (April 25, 2017), we will announce 3 winners, who will receive a prize of their choosing.

  1. Eligibility
    Open only to individuals 18 years or older. Void where prohibited by law.
  2. By submitting your original photo, you agree to receive emails from IDT containing offers and developments that we think may interest you. You will be given the opportunity to unsubscribe to every email that we send.
  3. Prizes and odds of winning
    3 winners will be selected from all eligible entrants. Each of the 3 winners can select 1 of the following themed prizes: DNA Mobile (Approximate Retail Value, $30.00), Genetic Code Glasses—Set of 2 (Approximate Retail Value, $28.00), or 36-block set of Electric Light Blocks (Approximate Retail Value, $30.00). Prizes may not be transferred or redeemed for cash. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
  4. How To enter
    • Share an original photo on Instagram and/or Twitter and tag the photo using the hashtag #idtdnaday.
    • Entry period begins at 12:01 A.M. (CDT) on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and ends at 11:59 A.M. (CDT) on Monday, April 24, 2017.
    • Only one entry per person will be allowed.
  5. Judging criteria
    IDT Judges will determine 3 winners based on a combination of the following criteria (all decision are final):
    • Connection to the theme of the photo contest— “Structure”
    • Creativity
    • Composition
  6. Prize delivery and taxes
    IDT will coordinate with the winners to arrange for shipment of the prizes. All shipping costs will be at IDT’s expense. Taxes (federal, state, and local) are the winner’s sole responsibility.
  7. Release
    The entrant hereby releases Instagram and Twitter from all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, suits, debts, and liability whatsoever that may exist relating to or arising out of conduct or events relating to this promotion.
